The College Profile

Govt. Degree college Hiranagar was sanctioned vide Govt. Order no. 28-HE of 2005 dated 09/03/2005 and consequently the first session 2005-06 commenced from 18th July 2005 with the strength of 17 students and the roll has increased since then gradually.

The College was established in the year 2005 as Govt. Degree College and was renamed as Girdari Lal Dogra Memorial Degree College Hiranagar. Sh. Girdari Lal Dogra, a great son of the soil, freedom fighter, torch bearer of the entire state of J&K and a Great visionary worked for the upliftment of the state. In the Month of March 2012, College was recognized by the UGC under section 2(f) and 12-B.

The college spread in an area of 71 kanals, situated 1Km away from the National Highway in Tehsil Hiranagar, District Kathua. The subjects taught at UG level are Arts and Science. The number of combinations in Arts stream is 33 and in science stream are 5. Subjects taught at under Graduate level in Arts are English, Economics, Education, Hindi, Dogri, Geography, Sociology, Computer Application, Sanskrit, Music and Maths.

In science stream Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Geography and Environment science as an optional subject in BA/B.Sc. Part-II. In addition to this the college has a distance education study centre functioning under the aegis of Indira Gandhi National Open University(IGNOU), New Delhi.
